Washington — President Biden is traveling to Pennsylvania on Tuesday to promote the American Rescue Plan, the beginning of a six-state presidential swing to highlight the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief legislation that was signed into law last week.
The president, Vice President Kamala Harris and their spouses are touring the country this week to tout the measure, which includes popular provisions such as additional unemployment benefits, a child tax credit and $1,400 direct checks for Americans making $75,000 or less. The relief measure also includes $350 billion in aid to state and local governments, $14 billion for vaccine distribution and $130 billion to assist schools with reopening.
Property taxes around the U.S. have long been a lightning rod for debate, with political leaders perpetually balancing the need to fund their budget priorities against the risk of alienating homeowners and businesses. This week, for example, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani sparked an uproar by proposing to close a budget hole by sharply raising property taxes. Edited by Alain Sherter In:
