Bantwal murder: Case booked against 15 persons

A group of persons came in vehicles and attacked Abdul Rehman and Kalandar Shafi when they were unloading sand from a pick-up truck.
The Bantwal Rural police have filed a case against 15 persons in connection with murder of Abdul Rehman, 32, near Kolattamajalu, Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, on May 27.
The police have named Deepak, Sumit and 13 other persons as accused.
A group of persons came in vehicles and attacked Abdul Rehman and Kalandar Shafi when they were unloading sand that was brought by the latter in a pick-up truck (four-wheeler). The group damaged the windshield of the pick-up truck. They dragged Abdul Rehman and Kalandar Shafi out of the vehicle and allegedly assaulted them.
Abdul Rehman died on the spot while Kalandar Shafi was admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.
In the complaint filed with Bantwal Rural police, Mohammed Nissar said Deepak and Sumit were known to Kalandar Shafi. Kalandar Shafi revealed the names to him while being taken to a hospital in an ambulance, Nissar stated in the compliant.
On May 28, people gathered in large numbers at the mortuary of the private hospital in Deralakatte where the body of Abdul Rehman was kept. After completion of autopsy and necessary formalities, police handed over the the body to the family. The body was taken in an ambulance to a masjid in Madani Nagar at Kutthar for a holy bath. From there, the body was taken to the burial ground in Kolattamajalu where the last rites was performed.
Abdul Rehman was secretary of Kolattamajalu Jumma Masjid. Kalandar Shafi is a construction labourer.
