Mesaieed Hospital

Al Wakra Hospital's National Diabetes Center has relocated to Mesaieed Hospital in move that will enable the multidisciplinary team to treat more patients with the condition. The National Diabetes Center opened at Al Wakra Hospital in 2014, provides patients in the south of the country with access to world class diabetes services in one place. Last year the Center in Al Wakra saw more than 20,000 patient visits. Dr. Mahmoud Zirie, Senior Consultant and Head of the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Department said: "The National Diabetes Centers are designed to serve as 'one-stop-shops' in which patients can speak with specialist healthcare professionals and get access to individualized treatment." "The Centers provide health education, medication, and equipment, as required. We offer individualized treatment plans built around a patient's specific needs. HMC offers first-class diabetes diagnosis, assessment, education, management and multi-disciplinary care," Dr. Zirie added. Dr. Khalid Dukhan, Senior Consultant and Director of Diabetes Care at the Mesaieed National Diabetes Center said the newly relocated facility was more spacious and would enable patients to have a better experience. "Moving the Center from Al Wakra to the new site at Mesaieed Hospital will enable our team to see more patients and in the new location, it will be an overall better patient experience," he said. There are two additional National Diabetes Centers located at Hamad General Hospital and the Women's Wellness and Research Center. Diabetes is a complex condition which can lead to debilitating long-term complications and acute illness. The disease in Qatar is quite prevalent with about 17 percent of Qatar's adult population thought to have diabetes. About 10 to 20 percent of Qatar's population is estimated to be pre-diabetic.
