Actress Gautami stresses NGO and government support for cancer patients at awareness event in Hanamkonda.
Popular Telugu actress and cancer survivor Gautami emphasised the crucial role of NGOs and the government in spreading cancer awareness and supporting poor cancer patients during a cancer awareness programme organised by the Pratima Foundation in Hanamkonda here on Tuesday (February 4, 2025).
Ms. Gautami said that many poor cancer patients struggle to recover due to lack of access to nutritious food. She appealed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to provide nutritious kits to such patients.
Sharing her own experience, Ms. Gautami recalled how she overcame her fear and was determined to fight cancer for the sake of her child. She highlighted the importance of early cancer detection and following medical protocols.
Ms. Gautami also debunked the common misconception that cancer only affects those with a family history. She encouraged the youth to refrain from consuming harmful substances like gutka, pan masala, and tobacco, which can lead to cancer. The government should establish rehabilitation centres in every district to help the youth overcome these addictions, she added and praised the Pratima Foundation for organising the awareness programme.
Director of Pratima Foundation, Boinpally Harini said the enthusiastic participation of the youth and students in the walkathon and in the meeting proved that people in Tier-II cities are as vigilant as those in the metropolitan cities. She said Pratima Foundation will have more programmes such as these to give a fillip to cancer awareness.
Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya offered her help in organising health camps for early detection of cancer. She also appreciated Pratima Foundation for the initiative. Earlier, over 1,000 students and youth took part in a walkathon held from Public Gardens to Kaloji Auditorium in Hanamkonda.
