However, Salman Ali Agha's ploy against the Indian opener worked out well as he was dismissed without troubling the scorers for the second time running during the T20 World Cup 2026. This has continued a trend for the southpaw this year, where it has been either go big or bust for the Indian opener. In the games he has played so far, Abhishek has registered scores of 84, 0, 68*, 0, 30, 0, 0.
As quoted by the ICC, Shastri said he believes Abhishek is due for a big knock but admitted that patience will be key for the opening batter.
"I think he's due, but he just has to give himself a little bit of time," Shastri told Sanjana Ganesan after India's triumph over Pakistan.
"Such things happen and you can go off the boil, but he's just got to give himself a little more time until he gets back on track.
