7th service member killed in Iran war brought home in dignified transfer
USA TODAY
Sgt. Benjamin Pennington, 26, the seventh U.S. military member who was killed in the war in Iran, was brought home in a dignified transfer.
The seventh American soldier killed in the Iran war was brought back to the United States in a dignified transfer on March 9.
The remains of Army Sgt. Benjamin Pennington arrived at the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware one day after the 26-year-old died from injuries sustained from an Iranian attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 1.
Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were in attendance at the dignified transfer, a solemn event reserved for military members killed in action. It consists of military personnel transferring the casket from the aircraft to an awaiting vehicle at the Dover base.

Pennington's dignified transfer came two days after the same occasion took place for the first six Americans killed in the war. President Donald Trump, Vance and Hegseth were in attendance at that dignified transfer.
