An Iranian intelligence officer and three alleged members of an Iranian intelligence network have been charged in Manhattan with plotting to kidnap a prominent Iranian opposition activist and writer in exile and take her back to Tehran, authorities said Tuesday.

Victims were also targeted in the United Arab Emirates, authorities said. The identities of the alleged targets weren't released but Masih Alinejad, of Brooklyn, confirmed on Twitter late Tuesday that authorities had told her she was among them. After four days of voting, with more than 400 million people eligible across 27 countries, European voters have pulled the bloc's 720-seat parliament farther to the right than it has ever been.
