A 15-hour standoff with a man inside a Kipps Lane apartment building ended Saturday night with two police officers seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
The man who barricaded himself inside a unit at 621 Kipps Lane was arrested at 8:30 p.m., about an hour after two police officers sustained what officials described as serious but non-life threatening injuries.
It was the culmination of a tense day at the apartment building which began at about 5 a.m. Saturday when emergency crews were called about an unresponsive man. The man was found with serious injuries and died a short time later.
Another man locked himself in a unit of the building with a gun, police said.
"Throughout the course of the day, police negotiated with a barricaded man," officials said. "At approximately 7:30 p.m., two officers were injured at the scene."
The incident drew a large police presence and shut down a major road in London, Adelaide Street, between Windermere Road and Huron Street.
