Yellowknife security guards fired, arrested after allegedly throwing 63-year old head first down stairs

Clifford Antoine, 63, says two security guards from Risk Control Canada threw him head first off the top of the stairs of Norseman Manor apartments in downtown Yellowknife, leaving him bloodied, with a black eye and broken wrist.
Antoine asked police to lay charges against the guards. He said their alleged conduct was unwarranted and heavy-handed.
On Thursday afternoon, RCMP said they arrested both security guards and released them on a promise to appear March 3 to face charges of assault causing bodily harm.
The elder, who doesn't live in the building, said he was charging his phone in the hallway in the early hours of Sunday, when two security guards told him to leave.
Antoine said despite unplugging his phone and agreeing to go, two guards dragged him out of the building before throwing him off the stoop.
“I got grabbed from behind by two of them,” he said. “When they got to the top here, they just flung me and I landed, and banged my head. I started bleeding and I didn't know I broke my wrist until I went to the hospital,” he said.
Both Risk Control Canada and the building's owner, Northview REIT, declined to comment Wednesday, citing an internal investigation.
On Thursday, Risk Control Canada told CBC it had fired both guards involved.
In a statement, the company wrote their now-former employees' "conduct was determined to be inconsistent with company policies and procedures, training, and professional standards."
Neither company addressed the CBC’s questions about their specific security protocols. Northview did not say if a security camera above the stoop captured video of the incident.
On Thursday, RCMP said they could not name of the guards until the charges have been formally sworn in court.
Police said in a statement earlier this week that Antoine sustained “minor injuries."
On Tuesday, with a cast on his arm, wincing from pain, Antoine stands outside the landing where he says the guards injured him. His right eye is swollen and blue. The whites of his eyes are pooled with blood.
Antoine said the gash to his head and broken wrist are hardly minor. Pain radiates from the bridge of his nose into his cheeks, he said. An orthopedic surgeon will determine if he needs corrective surgery for his wrist.
