Yankees eliminated from Roki Sasaki free agency sweepstakes
NY Post
Roki Sasaki is narrowing down his choices — and it’s bad news for both local teams.
The Yankees have been told the 23-year-old Japanese right-hander won’t be signing with them, The Post confirmed.
The news was first reported by the YES Network.
The Mets have also been told they were out of the running for the prized free agent on Monday, The Post confirmed.
The Yankees and Mets were among the group of teams that met with Sasaki, along with the Dodgers, Padres, Cubs, Rangers and Giants — although the Giants are also said to be out of the running.
And The Athletic reported Monday Sasaki met with the Blue Jays, as well, in advance of the signing period for international free agents, which begins Wednesday.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
