Yankees’ Cody Bellinger downplays back issue as he hopes to return soon
NY Post
PITTSBURGH — For a second straight game, Cody Bellinger was out of the Yankees’ lineup on Saturday.
But the outfielder, whose back first tightened up on him during Thursday’s game, said he has dealt with this before and it has typically been a “few-day thing.”
He was feeling enough improvement that he took swings in the cage on Saturday morning.
“It’s feeling good, responded well,” Bellinger said at PNC Park. “I just took some swings, so I feel really good where I’m at right now.”
Bellinger described the issue as some unalignment in his back creating tightness around his belt line.
The 29-year-old expected to be available off the bench Saturday and said returning to the lineup Sunday was a possibility.

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
