Yankees’ Aaron Boone takes great pains while raving about Joey Gallo
NY Post
Aaron Boone raved over the Yankees’ latest big-name acquisition, and the manager took pains to stress that Joey Gallo will serve as a cure to, rather than a promoter of, his team’s lack of athleticism.
“We’re incredibly excited to have two players that we feel like are really going to help us,” Boone said of Gallo and lefty reliever Joely Rodriguez, before the Yankees concluded their series with the Rays at Tropicana Field. “Obviously the talk of Joey Gallo, look, I’m thrilled he’s coming to join the fold. This is obviously a tremendous player. “Hopefully people are talking about what a tremendous all-around player we’re getting. A really good athlete. A guy that runs the bases, has some speed. That’s a really good defender in the outfield. And obviously the tremendous patience, the power that he has.”
SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
