At the WWDC 2022 event, Apple announced the all-new MacBook Air with a durable unibody design, fast charging support, notched display, and M2 chipset. MacBook Pro with M2 chip also comes along.
At the company's developers conference WWDC 2022, Apple made some key hardware announcements. The company unveiled the much anticipated MacBook Air with a durable unibody design, fast charging support out of the box, notched display, and the M2 chipset that succeeds the M1 chip announced last year. The Cupertino-based tech giant also announced the launch of the new MacBook Pro model with the M2 chip and a 13-inch display.
The MacBook Air M2 starts at $1199 and will be available from July. The M1-based Air will continue to be available for $999, Apple confirmed during the event. The MacBook Pro M2 version comes at a price starting at $ 1299.
Update: In India, the MacBook Air starts at Rs 119,900 and Rs 109,900 for students. The MacBook Pro M2 starts at Rs 129,900 and 119,900 for education. Both these models will be available in select Apple Store locations and Apple Authorised Resellers from next month. A specific date hasn't been revealed yet.
The MacBook Air 2022 takes its design cues from the 14-inch MacBook Pro and includes MagSafe charging, two Thunderbolt ports, and a headphone jack. The new MacBook Air 2022 comes in four vibrant colours - silver, space grey, and starlight and midnight.
The 2022 MacBook Air features a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with slimmer bezels all around and 500 nits of peak brightness. Apple claims that the MacBook Air powered by the M2 chipset is around 40 per cent faster than the previous version.
The newly launched M2 chip is built using second-generation 5-nanometer technology. Apple claims that the "M2 takes the industry-leading performance per watt of M1 even further with an 18 percent faster CPU, a 35 percent more powerful GPU, and a 40 percent faster Neural Engine.1 It also delivers 50 percent more memory bandwidth compared to M1, and up to 24GB of fast unified memory. M2 brings all of this — plus new custom technologies and greater efficiency."
M2 features the company's next-generation GPU with up to 10 cores combined with a larger cache and higher memory bandwidth. "The 10-core GPU delivers a big boost in graphics performance, bringing up to 25 percent higher graphics performance than M1 at the same power level, and up to 35 percent better performance at its max power," Apple explained. "The higher performance per watt from M2 enables systems to have exceptional battery life, and run cool and quietly, even when playing graphics-intensive games or editing massive RAW images," the company explained.
