World Series Game 6’s ninth inning was complete chaos — from a bizarre wedge ball to final double play
NY Post
This year’s World Series will have a Game 7 — but fans might be talking about the ninth inning of Game 6 for a long, long time.
The Dodgers held on for a 3-1 win over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Friday night, but it was how they staved off elimination that made this game all the more exciting.
With a runner on first against reliever Roki Sasaki in the bottom of the ninth, Toronto’s Addison Barger smacked an extra-base hit into the left-center field gap before the ball became lodged at the bottom of the wall.
Dodgers center fielder Justin Dean and left fielder Enrique Hernandez immediately held up their arms to signal to the umpires that the play should be ruled a dead ball and prevent the baserunners from scoring.
But before everything was sorted out, Blue Jays pinch-runner Myles Straw kept on running on the way home, which would’ve cut Toronto’s deficit to 3-2.
However, he was sent back to third on what was called — and confirmed — to be a ground-rule double.

Suddenly, someone had hit a rewind button and everyone had been transported back seven months. It was early spring instead of late fall, it was broiling hot outside the arena walls and not freezing cold. Everyone was back at TD Garden. There were 19,156 frenzied fans on their feet begging for blood, poised for the kill.
