Work commences for state-of-the-art Al Waab Dialysis & Diabetes Centre

 * Health minister unveils the commemorative plaque HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, unveiled the commemorative plaque to mark the beginning of the construction work of Minister lays stone for Al Waab Dialysis & Diabetes Centre Monday. HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim was also present on the occasion. Al Waab Dialysis & Diabetes Centre is being built from funds contributed by Abnaa Mohammed Al Mana Real Estate and under the management of Hamad Medical Corporation ( HMC).HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari cuts a ribbon to open the project, along with HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim. PICTURES: Shameer Rasheed The outpatient facility of the Al Waab centre will comprise of 78 renal dialysis treatment stations, three peritoneal dialysis units as well as separate nephrology and diabetic clinics, a ground floor emergency department as well as a café, offices, a seminar and conference room, pharmacy, courtyard, waiting and reception areas, day activity room, two prayer rooms and ample car parking.Some of the dignitaries at the event Hamad Nasser al-Khalifa, HMC’s chief of Healthcare Facilities Development and acting chief, Business Services, commented on the unveiling of the plaque and thanked Al Mana Real Estate for their support to HMC’s services. “Establishing Al Waab Dialysis and Diabetes Centre furthers HMC’s efforts to provide citizens and residents with the best treatment , as it shall improve quality levels of our dialysis and diabetes services. We look forward to further collaboration with Al Mana Real Estate.” Construction activities at the site Abdullah bin Hamad Almana, CEO of Almana Real Estate, said: “We are confident that this will be one of this country’s leading health centres while employing the highest standards of quality. It will be equipped with the latest international medical technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases and diabetes and have an emergency department fully endowed with vital medical equipment and supplies.” The nephrology department also has two dialysis units for VIPs. There are isolated dialysis treatment rooms and four care clinics for patients with advanced kidney disease as well as clinics devoted to general nephrology, ophthalmology, cardiology, home dialysis, podiatry, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy. The diabetes treatment department includes eight diabetes stations with diabetic equipment, a dedicated IV clinic room, three assessment stations and three treatment stations as well as two dietician consulting rooms and injection therapy clinics. “We have also included a cultural touch into the architectural design with a crisscrossed pattern skylight which symbolises the Arab costume, lighting up the entrance and stairways to make patients feel familiar and relaxed,” explained al-Mana. The new centre will be open from 7am – 9pm with staff operating in two shifts. It will provide services for patients requiring regular renal dialysis approximately half of whom also suffer from diabetes. The centre is to be constructed to ‘green building’ standards with sustainability at its core.
