
With 'alloparenting,' moms and dads don't have to go it alone, experts say

We aren't meant to parent alone. Throughout most of human history, childrearing was a communal experience, as paid help and wider family networks -- called alloparenting -- helped raise kids. But today, many parents feel as though there is something wrong with them for not being able to do it all on their own.
Another misconception fueling those "wars" was that a mom, and only a mom, staying at home all day with her children was a product of evolution and therefore the natural order of things.
