Winter storm forces closures of major highways, city services as heavy snowfall pummels Toronto

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning Monday morning due to gusty winds and near-zero visibility amid blowing snow as parts of Ontario expect up to 60 centimetres.
As a result, Toronto Police Services (TPS) announced the closures of the Don Valley Parkway and The Gardiner Expressway Monday morning.
“Due to extreme weather and for the safety of drivers, the Toronto police is temporarily closing the DVP and Gardiner,” the agency wrote in a statement on their Twitter account.
Just after noon on Monday, police announced the Eastbound Gardiner Expressway had fully re-opened and the westbound Gardiner had reopened from Jarvis.
They did not provide a timeline for the reopening of the Don Valley Parkway.
