
What the immigration 'crisis' debate is missing

All of the attention in Washington on President Joe Biden's first 51 days has been on his Covid-19 stimulus bill, which he signed into law on Thursday.
But even as Biden scores a major victory with the passage of $1.9 trillion in spending to help dig the country out of hole that battling the pandemic for the last year has created, another serious issue has cropped up: large numbers of unaccompanied minors trying to cross into the United States at the southern border. So how did the situation get to this point? How much is it the result of Biden administration policies? And is it fair to call it a "crisis" at the border? I reached out to CNN's Catherine Shoichet for answers to all those questions -- and more. Our conversation -- conducted via email and lightly edited for flow -- is below.
