A 32-year-old woman died of mucormycosis, commonly known as Black Fungus infection, becoming the first death due to the disease in West Bengal, a state health department official said on Saturday. Shampa Chakraborty, a resident of the southern part of the city's Haridevpur area, was admitted to the Sambhunath Pandit Hospital with COVID-19. She was later diagnosed with mucormycosis, he said. The patient, who was highly diabetic and was on insulin, died on Friday. At present, five patients are undergoing treatment for the disease in the state and all of them are from neighbouring Bihar and Jharkhand, the official said adding, "We are constantly monitoring their condition."More Related News
