Welfare assistance worth ₹44 crore disbursed to 7,000 beneficiaries
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin disbursed welfare assistance worth ₹44.05 crore to 7,127 beneficiaries and inaugurated 32 projects implemented at a cost of ₹6.02 crore at a function held here on Friday.
He also laid foundation stone for185 new projects worth ₹55.93 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Udhayanidhi said over 12 crore women in the district had availed free travel in the buses ever since the scheme was launched in May 2021 and over 18,000 girl students from Tenkasi district were receiving monthly assistance of ₹1,000 under the ‘Puthumai Penn’ scheme. The monthly honorarium of ₹1,000 was being given to over 3.30 lakh women from Tenkasi district Under the free breakfast scheme, over 12,000 children from the district were being served food and over 4,000 students had received free laptops.
He informed that steps were being taken to set-up SIPCOT’s industrial estate in the district on an outlay of ₹300 crore and a sports complex had been created at a cost of ₹15 crore.
Mr. Udhyanidhi appealed to the women entrepreneurs and the self-help group members to judiciously utilise the loans they had received to start their business venture to become employers.
Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran, District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore, MP Rani Srikumar, MLAs S. Palani Nadar, T. Sadan Thirumalaikumar and E. Raja and others participated.
