Bhumi Pednekar is ecstatic and the reason is her latest release Badhaai Do. The film stars Bhumi and Rajkummar Rao as members of the LGBTQ+ community. In the movie, the characters keep their sexual orientation a secret and enter into a lavender marriage as societal and familial pressure mounts. What follows is a comedy of errors that transforms into a story that advocates love, individuality and inclusivity in its myriad forms. And, Badhaai Do has received unanimous praise for its sensitive and empathetic portrayal of the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community. Acknowledging the praise coming her way, Bhumi penned a gratitude note to fans on Wednesday.
Sharing stills and behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of the film, Bhumi Pednekar wrote, “Thank you. Every msg, post, tweet, story you guys sent us, was read.” She added that many fans said that the film resonated with their struggles and triumphs. Bhumi Pednekar further wrote, “I couldn't believe what was happening. So much love. We cried reading many, we laughed reading many. Many said thank you and many said you helped us find our courage and acceptance.”
Tagging her costars Rajkummar Rao, Chum Darang and Gulshan Devaiah, she wrote, “We are ecstatic that you could find a bit of yourself in Rajkummar Rao, Chum Darang and Gulshan Devaiah and I. This is our most special film and what's happened over the past 4 days has made it historic.”
