Water level in Mullaperiyar dam on Monday stood at 118.25 feet (the maximum permissible level is 142 ft.) with an inflow of 93 cusecs and a discharge of 400 cusecs. The level in Vaigai dam was 47.01 ft. (71 ft.) with nil inflow and a discharge of 69 cusecs. Combined storage in Periyar credit was 3,067 mcft.
While residents are worried over deaths due to diarrhoea in Vijayawada, officials still grapple to find the root cause. Contaminated drinking water supplied by VMC officials is the reason, insist people in the affected areas, but officials insist that efforts are on to identify the disease and that those with symptoms other than diarrhoea too are visiting the health camps.
