Vietnamese Journalist Could Face 20 Years in Prison

WASHINGTON - A Vietnamese journalist who reports on corruption and land confiscations could face up to 20 years in prison after being arrested last week.
Police detained Le Van Dung, 51, just outside of Hanoi on June 30, more than a month after the journalist had gone into hiding to avoid a special warrant for his arrest. The journalist's wife, Bui Thi Hue, told VOA that Dung had been staying at a relative's house and that other family members had also been taken into custody. "During the process of arresting Dung, two of his relatives, including the house owner, were also taken away," Hue said.A TV screen shows a file image of North Korea's rocket launch during a news program at a bus terminal in Seoul, South Korea, May 27, 2024.
