Vayalkkara Vengad wins CBL race at Feroke

Vayalkara Vengad team won the second edition of the Champions Boat League (CBL) organised by the Dept. of Tourism at Feroke. AKG Podothuruthi & New Brothers Mayyicha came second and third. Hundreds watched race, with actor Asif Ali as chief guest. Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas said Chaliyar would be permanent venue for CBL.
The Vayalkara Vengad team became winners of the second edition of the Champions Boat League (CBL) organised by the Department of Tourism at Feroke here on Tuesday.
AKG Podothuruthi and New Brothers Mayyicha bagged the second and third places respectively in the race that had nine Churulan country boats from Kasaragod and Kannur districts competing on the still waters of the Chaliyar between the old and new bridges in Feroke.
Inaugurating the event, Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas said the Chaliyar would be a permanent venue for the CBL. He added that boat races were major events in the State’s tourism calendar, and that the government was determined to develop water sports.
Hundreds of people had assembled on the bridges to watch the race. Actor Asif Ali was the chief guest on the occasion.

Currently, only the services in the 32 series stop at the section of the road adjacent to the Broadway terminus, temporarily closed on account of reconstruction work. Small traders association tells R. Ragu that ensuring the services now accommodated at the temporary terminus at Island Grounds stop at NSC Bose road would benefit visitors to the markets in Parrys

The silent reading movement in the Mylapore-Mandaveli-RA Puram area showed up first at Nageswara Rao Park around two years ago, with modest ambitions, when Balaji launched it along with other reading enthusiasts from the region. This initiative has now moved parks, and seems to set to get entrenched in one. Due to renovation work at Nageswara Park, the reading session became irregular. With the Nageswara Rao park work gaining more surface area, it had to be shifted elsewhere. And it seems set to continue with a newly discovered green patch in RK Nagar in the Sundays to follow.
