Can star-studded Team USA overpower Great Britain in the World Baseball Classic?
Team USA is back in action against Great Britain at the World Baseball Classic on Saturday, hoping to improve to 2-0 in pool play after a commanding 10-run win over Brazil in the opener at Daikin Park in Houston.
Tarik Skubal takes the mound for the Americans in what will be the back-to-back AL Cy Young winner's only start of the tournament. Set for free agency after the 2026 season, the 29-year-old lefty will head back to Detroit Tigers spring training in Florida after pitching.
“When you look around at every pool, you look at all the different games going on around the world, those environments are always going to be pretty special," Skubal said. "And that's what makes the game of baseball so beautiful."
Great Britain lost to Mexico 8-2 in its WBC opener and will face Italy on Sunday in what could be a decisive game for Pool B.
