USA’s Cole Hutson stretchered off ice, taken to hospital after getting hit by puck at World Juniors in scary scene
NY Post
USA defenseman Cole Hutson was stretchered off the ice and taken to a hospital after being struck by a puck near the back of his head or neck during a World Juniors game against Switzerland on Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
Hutson, 19, was discharged after a brief stay at the hospital and rejoined his teammates after the team’s 2-1 win. USA Hockey said Hutson is considered day-to-day.
“It was a scary situation, no question,” USA coach Bob Motzko told reporters, adding he didn’t think Hutson got hit in the head. “It’s a very close group of guys, and they responded. It knocks you back. The building was silent. But the good news is that he was released and is back with us.”
A shot by Switzerland’s Gian Meier hit Hutson — a 2024 second-round pick by the Capitals — in the middle of the second period.
Cole Eiserman, Hutson’s Boston University teammate, was holding Hutson’s hand as he was being tended to by medical personnel in an emotional scene.
“You never want to see one of your guys go down like that and get stretchered off like that,” USA forward Will Zellers, who scored the go-ahead goal, told TSN after the second period. “So it was a little bit of a shock to all of us, but [we] knew we had to come up big for him and make a play. So happy and lucky I was able to be the one to make it.”

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.
