US eyes booster jabs as Delta variant rages among unvaccinated

Officials in the United States are moving towards recommending COVID-19 booster jabs for people who have been vaccinated as data comes in from US and international studies and the Delta variant spreads rapidly among the unvaccinated. “We believe sooner or later you will need a booster for durability,” Dr Anthony Fauci, the US government’s top infectious disease scientist, said at a briefing on Thursday. “We are evaluating this on a day-by-day, week-by-week, month-by-month basis, looking at any of a number of studies – both international and domestic studies,” said Fauci who is director of the US’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
