Uppal-Medipally elevated flyover to be ready in 8 to 10 months: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari promises completion of Uppal-Medipally flyover in 8-10 months, highlights infrastructural progress in Telangana.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the Amberpet flyover on Monday, May 5. Speaking at a public meeting held at Amberpet GHMC Grounds following the inauguration, Mr. Gadkari assured that the much delayed Uppal-Medipally elevated flyover would be completed within the next 8 to 10 months.

Acknowledging the challenges that have plagued the Uppal project, the minister said the remaining work would be expedited in coordination with the Telangana government. “With the State’s support, we are confident of overcoming the final hurdles and completing this project soon,” he said.

“I am very happy to be in this city after a long time,” Mr. Gadkari said, adding that building a flyover in the heart of Hyderabad had involved several logistical and administrative hurdles, including pending land acquisition. “The work has resumed under the same contractor and will now be closely monitored. This project has dragged on too long, but I will personally ensure it is completed within the next 10 months,” he said.

Highlighting broader infrastructural progress in Telangana, the Union Minister said the length of national highways in the State had more than doubled since 2014, rising from 2,511 km to over 5,000 km. “Hyderabad, as a city of knowledge and innovation, deserves world-class connectivity. We are planning access-controlled highways that will connect the city with every major urban centre in Telangana. Soon, no matter where you are in the State, you will be able to reach Hyderabad in five hours,” he said.

He also shared updates on the six-laning of the LB Nagar to Malkapur section, a ₹545 crore project that is already 75% complete. Of the 23 km stretch, most of the work on service roads, footpaths, minor bridges, and road widening is in progress. “This will help reduce congestion and cut signal-related delays by 20 to 25 minutes,” he said.

A key announcement was the launch of the Northern section of Hyderabad’s Regional Ring Road (RRR), a 162-kilometre stretch to be developed at a cost of ₹16,000 crore. Citing examples from international cities like Madrid, he spoke about replicable models such as double-decker flyovers and underground parking systems. “In Delhi, we have implemented the Dwarka Expressway with a multi-tier structure. We must explore double-decker flyovers in Hyderabad as well,” he added.
