UP polls in sight, BJP plans farmer outreach programme to counter Tikait factor

With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election in sight, the BJP is set to hold mega kisan panchayats and launch farmer outreach drives this month.

Facing flak from various farmers’ unions over the three farm laws passed by Parliament last year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is putting in place its farmer outreach programme in Uttar Pradesh that goes to the assembly polls in about six months. The BJP is set to hold mega kisan panchayats and launch farmer outreach drives this month in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP hopes to mobilise farmers in its support, especially in western Uttar Pradesh where the protest against the farm laws has continued under Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait for more than eight months.
