Ukraine-born oil tycoon Mikhail Watford was found dead in the garage of his Surrey mansion.
A Ukraine-born Russian oligarch was found dead at his home in Surrey, just days after Moscow’s invasion of Kyiv. Mikhail Watford (66), who made his fortune in oil and gas, was found hanging by a gardener in his sprawling £18 million mansion in Virginia Water, Surrey, as per report by the Mirror.
The death of Mikhail Watford comes amidst increased focus on oligarchs following Russian invasion of the Ukraine.
The Surrey Police have started an investigation into the death of tycoon Mikhail Watford.

The Sun reported a family friend saying, “His state of mind might have been affected by the situation in the Ukraine. The timing of his death and the invasion of Ukraine was surely not coincidental.”
Notably, the oligarch’s name was not on the list of people sanctioned by the UK government following Moscow’s escalation of assault on Kyiv.
But friends and family of Mikhail Watford are raising questions over the timing of his death. An associate suggested the timing of his death was suspicious, adding, “His death raises questions. After all the other suspicious deaths of Russian nationals and associates in the UK, it is only natural there will be speculation about his death.”
