U.S. Warns Russia Of 'Catastrophic Consequences' Over Nuclear Weapons

Jake Sullivan insisted Sunday that Moscow's threats are just the latest indication that Russia is struggling in its war.
The White House top National Security Advisor warned on Sunday that the U.S. would act decisively if Russia uses a nuclear weapon in Ukraine.
"We have communicated directly, privately, at very high levels to the Kremlin, that any use of nuclear weapons will be met with catastrophic consequences for Russia; that the United States in our allies will respond decisively. And we have been clear and specific about what that will entail," said Jake Sullivan.
The warning comes as Russia launched illegal referendum votes over the weekend — aimed at annexing Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine. And after Russia's President Vladimir Putin made thinly veiled nuclear threats in a speech last week.
