Two dead, two injured as reckless drivers mow down pedestrians in Chennai

Two road accidents in Chennai took place on Saturday and Sunday. Two people were killed and two others were injured. Chennai police arrested a TV journalist for killing a woman with his car while driving in an inebriated state.
A 76-year-old man in Adyar, Chennai died on Saturday, February 12, after he was hit by a Benz which had lost control. The Benz (TN 22 DR 1122) hit the man as he was trying to cross the road.
The Benz then smashed against a bullock cart of a vegetable vendor, injuring two people, and went on to hit a parked vehicle besides an SUV coming from the opposite direction.
The deceased was identified as M Krishnamurthy, a resident of Adyar. The injured were identified as Ravi (64) and Stephen (16).
Police say that the car belonged to a private university and the driver, K Dharmaraj, was not drunk. He had panicked and lost control of the car after the airbag in front of him popped.
Locals alleged that they had seen some youths get out of the car and run away. Police are now trying to find out if there were other occupants in the car too. The driver was allowed to return home on bail.
In another accident on Sunday morning, a TV journalist, under the influence of alcohol, knocked down a woman near Thiruvanmiyur Jayanthi signal.
Jeberson hit Valli (41) when she was going on her cycle to do household work in the morning. Onlookers chased the car because the driver had sped away after mowing down the woman.
