Bengaluru police arrest two in a car theft racket, recovering vehicles worth ₹2.31 crore from multiple locations.
The Govindpura police have arrested two persons, including one accused from outside Karnataka, in connection with a car theft racket, and recovered nine cars and one two-wheeler worth ₹2.31 crore.
The case came to light following a complaint lodged at the Govindpura police station in Bengaluru on January 4 by a resident of K.G. Halli. The complainant stated that his two-wheeler was stolen. The vehicle had been parked near 10th Cross within the police station limits.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered and police launched an investigation. Acting on credible information, police traced and arrested Syed Nizam, 37, a car dealer from Pulakeshi Nagar on January 5, near an Indira Canteen, along with the stolen two-wheeler.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in vehicle theft. He claimed to stealing cars and selling them with the help of an associate based in Delhi.
The accused was produced in court, which remanded him to 19 days of police custody. Sustained interrogation led police to identify and trace the second accused Mohammed Muzaffar, 26, a Delhi-based associate, who was arrested on January 14, in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Further investigation led to the recovery of nine stolen cars parked at various locations, including HBR Layout, Ravindra Garden and in vacant plots near residential layouts. The total value of the recovered vehicles is estimated at ₹2.3 crore.
