CBC
RCMP in Hay River say they've arrested two men after they seized prohibited weapons from an abandoned vehicle near the community last Friday.
In a news release Tuesday, police said they received a report of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 1 north of the Alberta border. Two men wearing ski masks had returned to the vehicle later, they said.
Police found the car driving on Highway 2. Its licence plate was reported stolen in Alberta, police said.
Police seized a loaded pistol, a prohibited magazine, assorted ammunition, unstamped cigarettes and a smoke grenade.
A 21-year-old man faces 20 charges, including numerous firearms offences and failing to comply with a release order.
A 40-year-old man also faces 42 charges, including numerous firearms and weapons charges, failure to comply with a release order and more. He was also facing four separate weapons prohibitions when he was arrested, police said.
"This matter is believed to be related to the illicit drug trade in Hay River and remains under investigation at this time," the release said.
Both mean appeared in court and are in custody. They will appear in court again in Yellowknife Tuesday.
