Ryan Remington, the Tucson police officer who fatally shot a man in a motorized wheelchair, was terminated on Wednesday after an internal investigation came to an end, according to an updated statement posted on the police department's website.
The termination is effective immediately, the statement said, and he can appeal the decision to the Tucson Civil Service Commission within 10 days, the statement said.
Remington will appeal the termination, his attorney told CNN on Thursday.

Janet Mills and her allies are counting on a gender gap to narrow Platner’s wide lead ahead of the June 9 primary to decide who will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins. They are betting that the unfiltered style that has brought Platner widespread attention as someone who could help Democrats reach young men will backfire with women.
