
TSX today: Financials and materials drive Bay Street lower

Canada's benchmark stock index opened lower Wednesday as all subgroups opened in the red, except for energy and utilities.
At 9:32 a.m. EDT, the S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 64.38 points, or 0.32 per cent, to 20,205.58. Wednesday's drop comes after the TSX rose 0.44 per cent to 20,269.96 Tuesday.
The TSX financials and materials subgroups were the most influential downside contributors in early trading.
Shopify Inc., Brookfield Asset Management Inc. and Toronto-Dominion Bank were among the stocks taking off the most points on the index.
