WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the progress of the U.S. military operation in Iran in a round of interviews on March 1.
The United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran and Tehran quickly struck back. Three American service members have been killed and five others have been seriously injured in the ongoing conflict.
The president told Fox News on Sunday the joint U.S. and Israeli strikes "wiped out" at least 48 Iranian leaders. Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was among those killed in the strikes.
Trump wrote on Truth Social the U.S. has also sunk nine Iranian ships and will be going after the rest of its fleet. He said the U.S. military also destroyed Iran's naval headquarters. "Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!" Trump wrote.
The president did not comment on the deaths of American service members in the post. He has not made remarks on camera about the Iranian military operation since his overnight video announcing the strikes on Saturday.
