Trump ally Steve Bannon surrendered to the FBI on Monday after being charged with criminal contempt of Congress on Friday.
Former President Donald Trump's political ally Steve Bannon on Monday surrendered to the FBI on charges of criminal contempt of Congress stemming from his refusal to cooperate with the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
"This is going to be the misdemeanor from hell," Bannon told reporters later outside federal court after making a brief appearance on Monday. "They took on the wrong guy."
Bannon on Friday was charged with two counts of contempt for failure to comply with a committee subpoena to produce any records and testify about what he knew about the assault.
Inside the courtroom, Bannon appeared calm and relaxed in front of Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather. He took off his mask while inside and sat with his hands clasped in front of him, smiling at times as he spoke to his attorneys.
