Tridev Star Sonam Khan On Being A "Sex Symbol" In The 80s: "If You Have It, Show It"

When asked if she thinks that people judged her, the actress said, "I don't care much about it."

Yesteryear actress Sonam Khan needs no special introduction. The actress, known for her hit popular track  Tirchi Topi Wale in the 1989 film Tridev, has opened up about her journey, in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. The actress said, “I am famous for being the bikini girl. But believe it or not, I can't swim. Yes, I was bold. I was ahead of my time.” When asked about the time when she was called the “sex symbol” and whether that was a taboo, the actress added, “Yes, it was definitely a taboo.”  I have worked for a short span. And, I don't think there is any harm in being a sex symbol. If you have it, show it.” When asked if she thinks that people judged her, the actress said, “I don't care much about it.”

During the interview, Sonam Khan also opened up about an incident when Aditya Chopra saved her from drowning. She said, “Rishi ji and I had to jump in the shallow end of the water and I had told Yash Chopra ji that I didn't learn swimming. When the shot happened, somehow, we entered the deep end of the water and I started pulling Rishi ji. I thought it was my last day. Suddenly I saw that someone jumped into the water with their clothes on and shoes and everything. Finally, I looked and it was Aditya Chopra. So, everyone thought I was giving a shot and he was the only one who understood what I was going through.”

On the competition she faced in the industry, Sonam Khan added, “I didn't have any friends as an actress because of competition. Why would we be friends? I became friends with Divya Bharti though but by then everyone knew I was leaving. At the age of 17, I told everyone that I am getting married and I won't sign any more films and that you have one year to wrap up everything. Divya ji obviously got to know this is a small industry. I never had friends then and I don't have them now.”
