Tropical Storm Elsa pelted parts of the Southeast with suspected tornadoes as it continued on a path toward New York.
One suspected tornado touched down at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in Kings Bay, Georgia, Wednesday evening, resulting in reports of multiple injuries and damage. Many of the injured were transported to local medical facilities for treatment, according to the base. Other tornadoes were reported across northern Florida and southwestern Georgia Wednesday, and there's a risk for more in the overnight hours as Elsa holds steady with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The two men killed as they floated holding onto their capsized boat in a secondary strike against a suspected drug vessel in early September did not appear to have radio or other communications devices, the top military official overseeing the strike told lawmakers on Thursday, according to two sources with direct knowledge of his congressional briefings.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth risked compromising sensitive military information that could have endangered US troops through his use of Signal to discuss attack plans, a Pentagon watchdog said in an unclassified report released Thursday. It also details how Hegseth declined to cooperate with the probe.
