
Top Republicans leery of major Supreme Court fight as some conservatives itch for battle

Sen. Kevin Cramer had just arrived at the US Capitol on Monday night when he found Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on the floor of the Senate.
His message to the GOP leader: Avoid a messy confirmation fight for President Joe Biden's first Supreme Court pick. McConnell agreed.
"He was already there," Cramer said, recalling the episode. And the North Dakota Republican added: "Let's not change the momentum of this midterm election because we aren't going to change the makeup of the court. Why spend a lot of time on that hill?"

Judge restricts federal response to Minnesota protests amid outrage over immigration agents’ tactics
Immigration agents carrying out a sweeping operation in Minnesota can’t deploy certain crowd-control measures against peaceful protesters or arrest them, a federal judge ruled Friday. The order follows widespread outrage over a fatal shooting, reports of US citizens getting detained and Minnesotans getting asked for documents for no clear reason.
