1. Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s suggestion that villages of Kanakapura at some future point merge with Bengaluru has sparked a turf war with Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy. It has also raised larger questions on how any effort to include more villages in Bengaluru would pan out in terms of providing infrastructure to a bourgeoning city.

2. After a spectacular 10-day Dasara celebrations, which ended with Jamboo Savari yesterday, the city of Mysuru is winding down. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah continues to stay in Mysuru, and will today inaugurate a horticulture department garden near Lingambudhi lake, and later unveil a statue of the late Marigowda, a big name in the horticultural history of Karnataka.

3. Big Boss contestant Varthur Santosh, who was arrested on Monday and sent to judicial custody for wearing a tiger claw in violation of wildlife laws, is said to have bought them about three years back. The Forest Department will now look into trail of the purchases to find out from where it originated.

When farm universities are not much bothered on the conservation of local varieties of mango and jackfruit, a veterinary doctor in Mangaluru plants saplings of over 300 grafted varieties of local mango (which were once wild mango) and some saplings of jackfruit of coastal belt by purchasing 5.4 acres at Kukkila, about 40 km away from Mangaluru, only for their conservation. Manohar Upadhya’s aim is to raise 475 varieties of local mango and 75 varieties of local jackfruit within the next two years, to save the varieties from extinction due to various reasons, like road widening and other infrastructure projects. Presently, 382 saplings of mango and 25 saplings of jackfruit are planted.
