The district administration has urged people to take precautionary measures and undergo treatment if they had symptoms of dengue and other seasonal diseases.
In a statement here, Tiruchi Collector M. Pradeep Kumar said that people could be affected by monsoon-related diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, influenza, typhoid, and cold and fever. The public, especially children and expectant mothers, should take precautionary measures at the first symptom of fever.
He said fever, fatigue, headache, and body aches were among the important symptoms of dengue fever. It was important that patients with fever and other symptoms approach the government hospital to undergo blood tests and treatment instead of stalling medical intervention.
He urged the public to drink boiled water to prevent water-borne diseases. Keeping oneself hydrated, taking adequate rest, washing hands with soap, and using a handkerchief while sneezing or coughing can help recover effectively and prevent the spread of disease. People experiencing fever with nausea, diarrhoea, and jaundice should immediately seek medical help.
Members of the public should dispose discarded containers, coconut shells, tyres, and pots, that collected water during the monsoons and allowed the breeding of mosquitoes.
Since children were vulnerable to such diseases, schools had been asked to give first aid or refer them to the nearest health centre or hospital if they were found to have any of the symptoms of fever.
