Mega job fair in Thrissur on April 26 offers skill training and employment opportunities for educated youth.
A mega job fair to be conducted in Thrissur on April 26 as part of Vijnana Keralam (Knowledge Kerala) project will be a ‘Pooram’ of job opportunities, Minister for Revenue K. Rajan has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a maha panchayat, a conference of all elected representatives of Thrissur district, on Friday.
Mr. Rajan stressed that the government’s approach was to address unemployment by identifying jobseekers and providing them skill training. He highlighted the government’s increasing focus on entrepreneurship alongside employment. The Minister said that a significant number of jobseekers had successfully been transformed into employers.
Former Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac, advisor to the Vijnana Keralam project, elaborated on the goal of strengthening the State’s knowledge economy through collaboration with various government agencies. He mentioned that the Vijnana Keralam project would provide essential skill training to candidates chosen by companies at the mega job fair.
The core objective of the project was to generate employment opportunities for educated youth by enhancing their skill sets according to the demands of the job market, he said.
The Knowledge Kerala People’s Campaign will guide those from various educational backgrounds—postgraduates, undergraduates, and diploma holders—towards skill development programmes aimed at nearly 100% job placement. An estimated 5 lakh students from ITIs, polytechnics, and arts and science colleges are expected to benefit from this initiative.
The maha panchayat was organised with the active participation of all local body representatives in the district, aiming to transform Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGIs) into job hubs. Through the Digital Workforce Management System (DWMS) portal created by the State government under K-DISC, jobseekers will be able to register, receive information about job opportunities, and access training services. The portal will also bridge the gap between jobseekers and employers, offering national and international employment opportunities.
