Three men arrested for sexually assaulting a woman at a government college canteen in Chennai, police confirm.
The Chennai police have arrested three men on charges of sexually assaulting a woman at the canteen of the Government Arts and Science College in Nandanam. The accused have been identified as Muthuselvam, Gunasekaran, and Karthikeyan.
The incident came to light after the woman filed a complaint on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) with the One Stop Centre of the Social Welfare Department.
According to the complaint, the 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by Muthuselvam, who ran a canteen on the college campus, along with Gunasekaran and Karthikeyan, at multiple locations, including the canteen, other parts of the campus, and a lodge. While Gunasekaran worked as a cook at the canteen, Karthikeyan was an auto-rickshaw driver.
Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Saidapet All Women Police Station. The woman received medical treatment and counselling. Muthuselvam, Gunasekaran, and Karthikeyan were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
Muthuselvam had been operating the college canteen for 12 years under a direct contractual agreement with the institution.
The police are continuing an intensive investigation into the case.
