The sure things, the maybes and the longshots to make the Giants’ roster, based on our intel

You’ve heard of the sports movie “Eight Men Out.”
Let’s call Giants training camp “Twelve Men In.”
Post Sports+’s annual exercise of breaking down the offseason roster into three categories — locks, bubble players and longshots — reveals there could be as few as 12 spots up for grabs during camp, which begins when 91 players report on Tuesday.
Sure, there could be injuries and other forms of roster movement that open up another spot or two, but it’s going to be a tight squeeze to get onto the 53-man roster because of all the draft picks and free-agent additions who have secured places.

SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
