The sport with the funny name that's sweeping America

Pickleball is by some measures the fastest-growing sport in America. A cross between tennis and ping pong, it was invented 57 years ago by three vacationing dads who needed an activity to entertain their bored kids.
So the dads -- Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum -- got creative. They used the items at their disposal, including some ping pong paddles, an old badminton court and a perforated plastic ball, and invented a new game for their kids to play.
With that, pickleball was born.

Janet Mills and her allies are counting on a gender gap to narrow Platner’s wide lead ahead of the June 9 primary to decide who will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins. They are betting that the unfiltered style that has brought Platner widespread attention as someone who could help Democrats reach young men will backfire with women.
