Cost estimates find the average estimated allowed amount for COVID-19 hospitalization is more than $30,000 and nearly $100,000 for complex cases.

While the country works to protect itself from COVID-19, some Americans are dealing with both the medical and financial impacts of the virus as open enrollment soon begins for many.

Outside of Pittsburgh, Courtney Kohler's day to day life took a sharp turn in December 2020 after a battle with COVID-19 that landed her in the hospital. 

"It was literally in the blink of an eye," Kohler said.
