Theaters needed a hero, and they got one in a big way this weekend.
"The Batman" — which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman — notched an estimated $128.5 million at the North American box office this weekend, according its studio Warner Bros. (Warner Bros., like CNN, is a unit of WarnerMedia.)
The opening flew past industry expectations that had the movie making closer to $100 million. It stands as the best opening of 2022 so far.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth risked compromising sensitive military information that could have endangered US troops through his use of Signal to discuss attack plans, a Pentagon watchdog said in an unclassified report released Thursday. It also details how Hegseth declined to cooperate with the probe.
