Thane mosque takes down loudspeakers in front of cops
India Today
A mosque in Thane specifically invited police officers to witness them taking their loudspeakers down amid the ongoing loudspeakers-Hanuman Chalisa row in Maharashtra.
Mosques in various states have been taking their loudspeakers down to abide by the Supreme Court guidelines on volume. In Maharashtra, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has been demanding the removal of loudspeakers from mosques, adding that his party workers will continue to play the Hanuman Chalisa at higher volumes until loudspeakers are ‘silenced’.
While many mosques have taken down loudspeakers or lowered the volume, a mosque in Thane’s Kalwa called the police on Thursday and took down the loudspeakers in front of them.
The incident is from Roshia Mosque in Mahatmaphule Nagar where, abiding by the orders of the Supreme court, the trustees of the mosque ordered the removal of the loudspeakers. The mosque not only informed the police but also requested top officials’ presence.
